Historically, the initials sat by the fourth button, hidden under a jacket. Displaying them elsewhere, in plain sight, was an ostentation a gentleman considered to be in poor taste. The thread colours used for the initials are carefully chosen by our stylist, in keeping with our quality fabrics. Tone-on-tone but a notch above on plain shirts, or matched to the boldest colour on a striped or checked fabric: initials are usually embroidered in white, grey or blue for formal shirts, and in navy or brown for more casual ones. Each fabric’s product page shows which colour is used for the initials.
