As early as the 1750s, Thomas Mason understood the implications that the industrial revolution could have for the textile industry, which until then had been essentially manual. A true leader of the English textile industry, he founded one of the first modern cotton spinning mills in Leeds in 1796, using hydraulic power.
The 18th century saw Thomas Mason's influence grow. He now offered fabrics of exceptional quality to an elite clientele, who dressed at the tailors of West End London. Under Victoria's reign, the famous House's clientele spread throughout the British Empire and eventually to the wealthy classes worldwide, becoming a benchmark of masculine elegance.
With the outbreak of the First World War, the company entered a new era, marked by the sartorial demands of men called up to fight. The famous English spinning mill created densely woven cotton fabrics with waterproof properties for aviators who might be damaged at sea.
After the war, Thomas Mason became the exclusive supplier to Turnbull & Asser, the British royal shirt manufacturer. He established himself as an emblematic figure in Jermyn Street, the famous street of English tailors, who gradually introduced fantasy and color into the English gentleman's wardrobe!
In 1992, Thomas Mason joined the Albini Group, which at the same time acquired his 700-volume archive, a sort of men's fashion précis of the last two centuries that continues to inspire today's collections. As in the early days, Thomas Mason manufactures its fabrics from double-twisted yarn cotton of exceptional quality.
LE CHEMISEUR® is particularly pleased to count among its suppliers one of the most emblematic names in men's shirts. Opting for Thomas Mason fabric means choosing impeccable quality and adopting a distinguished, timeless style. It also means rediscovering a fine piece of men's fashion history.
