The secret history of the Fit Key

The LE CHEMISEUR® story begins when the idea of making custom-made clothing accessible and digital germinated in the mind of Jan, a German engineer in the automotive industry.

Dissatisfied with the ready-to-wear shirt offering, he tried custom-made but struggled with the arrogance of the advisor, the cost, and the multiple fittings. Jan then imagined an online custom-made service that would reduce costs and allow for investment in quality.

Between 2012 and 2015, he tested hundreds of models, fabrics and fits. New to the bespoke business, he naturally had the instinct to start from a previous shirt, rather than body measurements as a traditional tailor would. To easily retrieve the previous shirt, he developed a unique code system. This Fit Key, the brand's symbol, is a patented invention that allows all the shirt's measurements to be retrieved in a 5-character code.

In 2023, LE CHEMISEUR® is improving the quality of its labels, thanks to the recent "Direct To Garment" technology, similar to that used for inkjet printers. This process eliminates the need for transfer film and offers better durability over time.

The Fit Key technology is constantly being refined: the armhole and hips are now taken into account. The finishes are graded. For example, for a slim customer, the collar, cuffs and placket will be refined to balance the silhouette. We have also developed an optimised fit for larger sizes, which applies to customers with a neck size greater than 48 cm.

Did you know?
