Off-the-Rack vs. LE CHEMISEUR®

Why the Best Men's Shirt Has No Size

Best men's shirt

Looking for the best men's shirt? You are likely used to paying €120 or €140 for a brand-name shirt. But what are you really buying? A logo and a standard size (S, M, L) designed to "fit just about anyone".

LE CHEMISEUR® changes the game. Thanks to our technology, for the same price as a classic premium shirt, you get true made-to-measure. No more choosing between style and comfort.

Why S/M/L is an Obsolete System

Off-the-rack fashion asks you to fit into boxes. If you work out, are tall and slim, or simply have a unique body shape, the standard "brand-name shirt" will never fit perfectly.

At LE CHEMISEUR®, we have inverted the process. We don't ask you to measure yourself (it's complicated). Our exclusive AI uses data from over 50,000 clients to create your unique pattern from 3 simple inputs:

  1. Your weight
  2. Your height
  3. Your age

The Result: A fit more precise than a session with a tailor, without leaving your home.

The "Fit Key": Your Wardrobe's Secret Weapon

This is where LE CHEMISEUR® definitively buries the classic shirt. Once you receive your first shirt, you get your Fit Key (a unique 5-character code).

  • Is the shirt perfect? Use this code to reorder any other fabric in 1 click.
  • Want to adjust it (e.g., sleeves +1cm)? Modify your Key online. Your next shirt will account for the adjustment.

It is the guarantee of always having the best men's shirt, one that actually fits you, year after year.

A Premium Shirt, Without the Risk

Switching to online custom-made can be scary. That's why we created the "Satisfied or Remade" guarantee. If, for any reason, your first shirt isn't perfect, we alter it or remake it for free. You take zero risk, other than never wanting to wear your old shirts again.

The B Corp Commitment

By choosing LE CHEMISEUR®, you are also choosing sensible fashion. No sales, no unsold inventory, no stock destruction. Just the right product, made for you, using the best European fabrics.

Find your shirt

What defines a quality men's shirt?

Four objective criteria: the fabric's origin (Europe = traceability and strict standards), yarn count (the higher the number, the finer and more resistant the cotton), fit precision against your morphology, and craftsmanship quality (at our atelier: 12 steps, German hardware from Wendler and Gütermann). The logo is not part of the list. On that basis, a standard shirt at €130 in store and a custom shirt at €99 are not in the same category. All about our shirts.

What is the real difference between a ready-to-wear and a custom shirt?

Ready-to-wear S/M/L is designed to fit roughly everyone — therefore no one in particular. Custom-made adjusts neck circumference, sleeve length, chest fit and back length to your morphology. The result shows immediately under the jacket: fewer creases, no gaping collar, sleeves that stop at the right place. Our AI fit tool generates your pattern from your weight, height and age — trained on more than 50,000 customers.

How much does a good men's shirt cost?

Three useful brackets: entry-level premium around €60-90, premium ready-to-wear €100-150, traditional bespoke €200 and above. Direct-to-consumer custom-made sits in the same bracket as premium ready-to-wear without the distribution markup: our shirts start at €99. The logic is reversed — you pay for the product, not for marketing or unsold inventory.

Which fabrics for a premium men's shirt?

For a business shirt: white poplin for lightness, twill for drape under a jacket, Oxford pinpoint for durability and ease of care. For a more relaxed shirt: brushed cotton, linen, heavy oxford. Three objective quality indicators: country of weaving (Italy, France, Portugal at the top), yarn count (the higher, the finer the cotton) and two-fold construction (two yarns twisted together, more resistant). All our fabrics are European and Oeko-Tex certified.

Is online custom-made as precise as a traditional tailor?

On fit: yes, often better. Our AI uses data from more than 50,000 customers and corrects biases that no individual tailor has in mind. 81% of shirts are perfect on the first order; the others need a minor adjustment of 1 to 2 cm. On human contact: no, we don't have a showroom in every city. It's a deliberate trade-off: less ceremony, more precision, at a price that stays accessible. Our Fit Guarantee covers 100 days to neutralize the risk.

How long should a quality shirt last?

A properly cared-for shirt lasts between 5 and 10 years depending on wear frequency. Fabric and stitching are the first points to give way — hence the importance of two-fold yarn and serious construction (12 steps in our case). It's also the strongest ecological argument: the less you re-buy, the less is produced. Our on-demand production model reduces CO₂ emissions by 43% compared to an average e-commerce ready-to-wear shirt.

How do I know if a shirt is well cut?

Five quick tests in front of a mirror: (1) the collar should let you slip two fingers between neck and fabric; (2) the shoulder seam falls right on the shoulder bone; (3) at the third button, no visible tension; (4) at the fifth button, you should be able to pinch 3 cm of fabric on each side; (5) the sleeve ends 3 cm above the base of the thumb. If any of these points fails, the shirt is not your size. The ready-to-wear trap: settling for the compromise 'tight at the neck but loose at the chest'.

Why prioritize a shirt made in Europe?

Three concrete reasons. Traceability: we know where the fabric comes from and who wove it. European social and environmental standards (REACH, Oeko-Tex) are among the strictest worldwide. The transport carbon footprint is divided by ten compared to Asian production. Our shirts are tailored in Tunisia by a long-term partner with permanent contracts since 2015, from Italian and French fabrics — shipped by truck and ship, never by plane.

Is it worth investing in a custom shirt?

The math is simple: at equivalent budget, one custom shirt replaces two or three branded shirts that don't fit well and end up at the back of the closet. Over time, it's cheaper per wear. Concrete indicators: 4.7/5 on 900+ Google reviews and 65% of our customers reorder within 6 months — a sign the shirt is worn, not forgotten. The Fit Key also removes the hidden cost of shopping: no fitting sessions, no failure, no return.

Which custom shirt brand is B Corp certified?

LE CHEMISEUR® is the first custom-made textile brand certified B Corp, since 2024, with a score of 95.3 out of 200 (admission threshold: 80). Concretely: on-demand production with no inventory, European ateliers with permanent contracts, traced supplies, full chain transparency. Not a marketing argument — an independent audit, recertified every three years. More about the brand.
